On the 28th of October Optus will be shutting down its 3G network. This was done so 3G could be repurposed to boost the capacity, speed, and reliability of the 4G network and rollout 5G to even more Australians.
From the 28th every Optus network customer, which includes Moose Mobile customers, must use a 4G & Voice Over LTE (VoLTE) compatible phone.
Phones that are incompatible with 4G will not be able to make or receive phone calls, including 000 emergency calls.
All Moose Mobile plans are 4G & VoLTE compatible. Any potential service disruption as a result of this shutdown will occur from a phone incompatibility or misconfiguration. Moose Mobile has sent communications to customers we believed have impacted phones.
Please note that while some phones do support the 4G data network, some are missing the critical VoLTE component which allows calls & SMS to be made over 4G.
If you want to confirm if your handset is 4G & VoLTE compatible, please txt '3' to '3498'.
If the reply text confirms your handset is incompatible, then you will need to upgrade to a phone that can make use of the 4G or 5G Optus network. Affordable Optus phones can be purchased for as little as $50 from your local supermarket which are guaranteed to work with your Moose Mobile SIM card.
If the reply text confirms your handset is compatible and you have not experienced any service disruption then that’s great, your handset is all set up and you are good to go.
If the reply text confirms your handset is compatible and you have experienced service disruption, then it's very important that you follow the instructions outlined below on how to enable the VoLTE feature.
Before attempting to switch on VoLTE on your phone, please make sure that your phone is updated to the latest firmware. Once updated, you'll need to turn on VoLTE in your mobile network settings. The path to these settings differs by manufacturer.
You may need to switch your phone off and back on again after making this change for it to work.
